In this post I will share all of my favorite travel resources that have gotten me through it all.
Flights tend to be the most expensive part of traveling for me. I would recommend comparing many different sights, and try to tread carefully. You of course do not want to give any information to a scam. I would personally recommend kayak, skyscanner, and flightfinder.
Whenever possible I also look into different ways of transportation. Whether that be trains, buses, or carshares. In general I love to check out rome2rio for a quick glance at options (to see if there are any other options), also google maps works great for public transportation. Even if you do not book on rome2rio it is a great starting resource to point you to different modes and companies that may be able to help.
For housing and accommodation I almost always book on Hostelworld. They have places seemingly everywhere and I have stayed in at least 32 hostels in 17 different countries. These hostels can range from very minimal amenities to very bougie! I typically go for the cheaper places because all I really need is a bed, but some people prefer spending a few more dollars for security and cleanliness. The app is a great resource because it shares costs, reviews, and all the amenities that the hostel will offer while you are there. A few times I have compared hostelworld to booking.com and found some better deals in the latter so it just comes down to which fits your budget the best. Another resource that I have used is Worldpackers. For this you need to pay for an annual membership. This requires a little bit more setup time. If you want to read more I have an article. You can browse through many different experiences to find which looks best for you, but basically once you’re accepted you can trade a few hours of your week in work for free accommodation and most often meals as well. Again, the app is a great resource to see any additional amenities they offer and read reviews.
Lastly, when it comes to the touristy things. I love a good tour here and there. Or even just to browse and see what to do within a city. I look to getyourguide. Though in most tourist towns you will find an abundance of tour companies, I like to look at the getyourguide app to find a base price. I also, having the security of booking through this company is preferable in some countries.
